Billingham local lad Mike joined the club as a junior in 1976 at the age of 13 and worked on his 26 handicap so by the time he was 17 Mike was playing off scratch. Mike became Junior Captain and was 5 times Club Champion whilst also representing Durham County on 40 occasions as an amateur. Amongst many honours he was twice Durham County Strike Play Champion, North Yorkshire & South Durham Champion & English Golf Union Northern Counties Champion.

Mike turned professional in 1990 and became Assistant Professional. In 1995 Mike became Head Professional at Billingham Golf Club. Mike continued to achieve as a professional and to date has won over 40 professional tournaments including the Woodham Classic & NENWPGA whilst also finishing Runner Up at the European Club Professional Championship in Sardinia in 1999 and 4th Place in the British Club Professional Championships the same year.

Mike has also taken part in the PGA Senior's Tour where he has played alongside two former Ryder Cup stars Christie O'Conner Jnr And Jose Rivero. In recent years Mike has been assisted by fellow professional Peter Kelly, who like Mike grew into golf from his time spent as a Junior at Billingham Golf Club.
