Welcome to the Ladies Section of Billingham Golf Club. I'm Helen Fawcett, a member of the club since 2017. At BGC we have a lively and very sociable group of lady golfers of all ages, who put the emphasis on having fun and enjoying the exercise golf provides, rather than the more competitive side of things!
We have recently been accredited with the R&A Women in Golf Charter which calls on members of the club to play their part in developing a culture that values women's involvement in every aspect of the sport, from participating to pursuing a career. I am the Charter Champion and am working closely with fellow club members to ensure we achieve the main aims of the Charter, which are listed here:-
* to increase the number of women and girls playing and working in golf
* to pursue a fundamental change in culture, providing economic benefits of growing the sport through more women and girls playing
* to making tangible efforts to develop a welcoming and inspiring environment for women by doing more to attract women into golf.
New and exciting initiatives for 2021 are being planned to attract lady members, including a Putting & Prosecco evening in June, which is a free taster session, and the introduction of a 'Buddy Scheme' so new ladies have an established member to help them get acquainted with the club, its members and facilities and to encourage them as they develop their game from the driving range and putting greens and onto the course itself. We also hope to have a fun 9 hole competition in the Autumn where lady members can invite a guest to play with them. Our application to take part in England Golf's 'Girls Golf Rocks' coaching initiative over the summer holidays to attract new junior girls into the club is pending approval and we should hear by mid April if we have been successful.
